I know there’s a word for what Paris is pictured doing in this photo… but I just can’t seem to think of the right word. What’s it called when a silly blonde woman (we can call her a “socialite” if we’re trying for some good old fashioned political correctness, but I see no point to that) pimps up her naked self… with her own autograph? Is it a more refined form of masturbation? Well, if you think of it on a metaphorical level, it may be seen as such – but I think the word I was looking for was “narcissism”, and there’s no better person to give advice in that respect than Paris.
I do wonder what Paris’ new year resolution would have been if she had any – it probably involved something along the lines of “signing as many photos of herself as possible”. I think she would have done better to try and sort out her vagina, but who am I to comment?
The fact is, Paris looking adoringly at a photo of herself is an icon of the following year. I’m not just talking everybody’s favorite (but no longer so rich) heiress here, but in general. 2007 was the year when all the narcissistic addicts came out to play – and did a bad job of it. Think of Paris and Nicole and Lindsay getting arrested. I’m absolutely sure each and every one of them thought there was nothing wrong with being drunk or a little high behind the wheel.
Enlarge pictureAs long as you’re famous and you love yourself, nothing can happen. You’re basically invisible to such trivial things as police radars and patrol cars, no one can pick you up and send you to jail, right? Well, surprise – it turns out they can – and will. And if in Nicole’s case it looks like she’s managed to get the madness under control, LiLo and Paris are back to their old (and ridiculous) partying-and-sleeping-around selves – which is not that much of a surprise, but it sure is funny. Sometimes at least. When it’s not gross. You get the point.
So, say hello to Paris Hilton, Paris Hilton’s biggest fan. It’s just not the same when your favorite celebrity in the world is not… yourself. I mean, it’s so easy to be your own fan. You don’t need to watch TV or buy magazines and posters in order to keep up with your own life – and think of all the money you save. So, here is Paris stepping into the new year in a pose that fits her like a glove. What better way to say “I’m a superficial attention-seeking idiot” than whoring out posters of yourself?
